Bollywood filmmaker Sriram Raghavan recently opened up about his connection with the film Baazigar in an interview with Pinkvilla. He shared that he had developed a storyline similar to Baazigar, but when the film was released, it disrupted his plans and dreams.

Known for his mastery in crime thrillers, Sriram Raghavan has carved a unique niche in Bollywood with films like Johnny Gaddaar, Ek Hasina Thi, Andhadhun, and Agent Vinod. In the interview, he spoke about his journey in the film industry and shared several behind-the-scenes stories and creative experiences.

One such story involved his early attempt to develop a crime-based script inspired by a Hollywood film. Raghavan revealed, “I had worked on a script based on a Hollywood film, and I was excited about making it. But when I watched Baazigar in theatres, I was shocked. The audience was loving it, but I felt devastated because the plot was strikingly similar to mine.”

He further mentioned that he had written the story intending to turn it into a Bollywood film. However, before he could proceed, Baazigar had already hit the screens, forcing him to shelve his idea. Raghavan also spoke about his love for storytelling, his habit of reading extensively, and how many of his film ideas have come from books.

Sharing more about his personal journey, Raghavan said he grew up in a middle-class family and spent most of his childhood in Pune. Later, he moved to Mumbai and worked under several filmmakers before joining the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), where he was a batchmate of Rajkumar Hirani. His first big break came from Ram Gopal Varma, who produced his debut film Ek Hasina Thi. Since then, he has gone on to direct some of the most iconic crime thrillers in Bollywood.
