What Comedy Star Johnny Lever Said About the Comic Roles Currently Being Offered in Cinema
A Veteran’s Honest Take on Today’s Comedy
according to the http://www.pinkvilla.com
Veteran comedian Johnny Lever recently gave an interview to The Times of India, where he shared his candid thoughts on the current state of comic roles in cinema. According to Lever, today’s comedy lacks both depth and strength.
Having entertained audiences for over four decades, Lever revealed that while he still receives many offers, he turns down most of them. Known for his flawless timing and signature slapstick humor, he feels the roles offered today don’t create the same impact as they once did.
“There’s Hardly Any Real Comedy Left”
In his own words, Lever said,
“There’s hardly any real comedy left in films now. Nobody is seriously working on comedy anymore. There’s a shortage of good comedy writers, and the roles being offered just don’t have any punch. Why should I do such weak roles that won’t even make the audience laugh? Why ruin my name for the sake of it?”
As a result of this decline in quality, Johnny Lever has reduced his appearances in films. Despite this, the demand for his brand of comedy remains as strong as ever.
Johnny Lever was last seen in Housefull 5, playing a comic role once again. Over the years, he has become known not just for his humor, but also for his grounded and approachable personality.
Lever has worked alongside nearly every major Bollywood actor — including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgn. He was often cast purely for comic relief, regardless of the film’s lead star.
