In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir Khan spoke about the upcoming WAVES summit being held in India. During the conversation, while responding to one of the questions, Aamir revealed details about one of his most ambitious projects for the first time. He also expressed gratitude towards the current Indian government for organizing WAVES and discussed a few of his upcoming projects.
While thanking the government for WAVES, Aamir mentioned his long-cherished dream project Mahabharat. Known as Bollywood’s perfectionist, Aamir has spoken about this project in previous interviews as well. In this interview, he reiterated his desire to bring Mahabharat to life. Aamir said, “I’ve been wanting to make Mahabharat for a long time, but it’s a massive project. That’s why we’ve now begun work on the writing.”
Aamir revealed that the project is envisioned as a multi-part saga. His idea is to produce it in different segments, possibly directed by different filmmakers. As a producer, he is preparing to lead this project, although he mentioned that decisions about casting and direction will take time. He added that he is considering a release format similar to major Hollywood franchises, where each part is released one after the other.
During the interview, Aamir also thanked the Indian government for organizing the WAVES summit, which will be held in Mumbai from May 1st to 4th. He said, “In my 35-year career, I don’t recall any government paying attention to the entertainment industry like this. But this government has recognized the need and initiated WAVES — the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit.”
The summit will focus on India’s audio and video industry and will feature prominent figures like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and many other major stars. Aamir was asked about the global success of his films like Dangal and Laal Singh Chaddha, and how they helped Indian cinema gain attention on an international level. He was also asked how he chooses such impactful subjects.
