How Was Ajinkya Dev Selected for the Role?

Instead of choosing a mainstream Bollywood actor, the makers chose noted Marathi actor Ajinkya Dev for this important role. Ajinkya himself revealed this selection process during an appearance on Virendra Chawla’s podcast.

He shared that he was initially approached for the role of King Dasharatha and had even given an audition for it. Later, the casting director informed him that although Dasharatha’s role wasn’t finalized for him, director Nitesh Tiwari was keen to cast him as Rishi Vishwamitra.

Following this, Ajinkya underwent a look test, after which the role was confirmed.

Ajinkya then narrated an incident from the shoot:
“During one scene, my pronunciation wasn’t coming out as expected. Multiple retakes were happening, and naturally, I began to feel tense. After the third retake, Nitesh sir came to me and calmly explained my mistake. But before the fourth take, he went to the lighting team and said, ‘Ajinkya is doing it correctly; there’s some issue with the lighting.’ He did this intentionally to boost my confidence. And finally, the shot came out perfectly.”

Praising the director, Ajinkya added:
“Nitesh Tiwari is brilliant. Only he could create a Ramayan of this magnitude.”

Current Status and Release Timeline

Ajinkya Dev will be seen playing Rishi Vishwamitra in this massive project. The shooting schedule is currently in full swing, with Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash busy filming for their respective roles.
