Case Filed Against Vijay Deverakonda Under SC/ST Act for Controversial Statement

South Indian actor Vijay Deverakonda has landed in serious controversy over a past statement that has now resurfaced. A case has been filed against him under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, alleging that his remarks were derogatory toward a marginalized community.
The controversy stems from a comment Vijay made during the pre-release event of the film Retro. In the context of the Pahalgam attack in India, he made a statement about Pakistan, saying:
“What is happening in Kashmir is due to educated terrorists. India doesn’t need to retaliate against Pakistan, because Pakistanis themselves are frustrated with their government. If this continues, the Pakistani people will rise against their own leaders. They behave like tribal people from 500 years ago—without common sense.”
It is the use of the term “tribal people” in this context that has sparked backlash. Critics claim the remark demeans indigenous communities and reinforces negative stereotypes, prompting legal action under the SC/ST Act.
Despite the statement being old, it has come under scrutiny now, especially with the actor in the spotlight ahead of his next major film release.
