Harrdy Sandhu is widely known for his energetic Punjabi songs and high-pitched beats. From hits like Blow Horn, Naah Goriye, Backbone, Kya Baat Ay, to Titliaan Warga, he has made a significant mark in the Indian music industry. However, what many don’t know is that his first passion wasn’t music—it was cricket. Very few people are aware that Harrdy was once a skilled cricketer and a fast bowler.
In an exclusive interview with Lallantop, Harrdy opened up about his early days as a cricketer and the unexpected reasons behind leaving the sport. His journey from being a promising athlete to a celebrated singer has surprised many fans.
A Cricketer Before a Singer
Born into a supportive Jatt family, Harrdy shared that his mother was a homemaker, and his father worked in the agriculture department. Raised in Patiala, Punjab, Harrdy recalled watching the 1996 Cricket World Cup on TV as a child, which sparked a deep desire to become a professional cricketer.
He began his journey as a fast bowler during his school days and gradually progressed through local, district, and state-level tournaments. His performances left a strong impression on coaches and selectors alike.
Selection for India Under-19
Harrdy’s cricketing skills earned him a spot in Punjab’s Ranji Trophy team and later, in India’s Under-19 national squad. However, fate had other plans. A serious injury forced him to step away from the game just as his career was taking off. After playing only a few matches, he had to leave the Under-19 team due to his physical condition.
Determined to return, he resumed training and even started playing again in domestic cricket. But despite putting in strong performances, he couldn’t make it back into the team. A recurring elbow injury further dashed his hopes, leading to a long break from cricket. Eventually, both mentally and physically exhausted, Harrdy stepped away from the sport altogether.
