Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film Punjab 95 has been stuck with the censor board for quite some time. Even after several rounds of cuts, a tug-of-war continues between the filmmakers and the censor authorities. Director Honey Trehan has openly expressed his views on the heavy number of cuts demanded by the board.
The film has faced significant hurdles from the Censor Board, with as many as 127 cuts being suggested. Despite this, the movie has still not received clearance. Director Honey Trehan expressed his frustration, stating that such excessive cuts threaten the creative integrity of the film.
Honey shared, “Initially, I reluctantly agreed to 21 cuts, thinking it would clear the film. But the board came back asking us to change the film’s title and also remove references to it being based on a true story. We reapplied with a new DSP (Digital Source Package) including those changes, but again they asked for more cuts. We complied and submitted a fresh print, but even then, the film wasn’t granted a certificate.”

Punjab 95 is an upcoming period biopic starring Diljit Dosanjh in the role of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a human rights activist who exposed fake encounters conducted by the Punjab Police.
