In a recent interview, Aamir Khan discussed how he was labeled as a “One Film Wonder” at the start of his career and what he had to do to remove that tag. He shared these details in a special interview with Javed Akhtar, on the occasion of turning 60. Aamir also recounted some lesser-known stories about his struggling days. A film festival has been organized in honor of his 60th birthday, which will be held from March 14 to March 27. During the press conference for the festival, Aamir spoke about the “One Film Wonder” tag.
The term “One Film Wonder” refers to someone whose first film was successful, but their subsequent projects failed. Aamir’s debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was a major hit. However, many of his following films flopped. Aamir recalls those days and says that due to his string of unsuccessful films, people started calling him a “One Film Wonder.” He mentions that his journey from being an assistant to an actor was easy, but after delivering his first hit, giving a second successful film became a huge challenge in his career.
After Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Aamir talks about his real struggle. He says that after the success of his first film, he received 300 to 400 film offers. Producers from all over came to him. At the time, many stars were doing 30 to 40 films simultaneously, and seeing that, Aamir signed 9 to 10 films. He thought that this was less compared to other actors. However, once the shoots began, he realized his mistake. He had to travel a lot for shooting, which left him exhausted. He couldn’t give his 100% to any of the films.
Even after signing so many films, Aamir did not feel happy. He somehow managed to complete the shoots for all these films, but once they were released, one after another, they flopped. Films like Awal Number, Tum Mere Ho, and Love Love Love failed at the box office. After this huge failure, Aamir says he didn’t know what to do. He would cry at home. That’s when the “One Film Wonder” tag was attached to him.
Aamir then explains that he knew Awal Number, Love Love Love, and Tum Mere Ho would fail, but he also knew that the next six films would be even worse. He could see his entire career falling apart and realized that he was stuck in a big mess. It seemed difficult to get out of it. However, it was the film Dil that saved his career and turned it back on track.

After the success of Dil, Aamir started to realize his mistakes. He learned the importance of the script, the director’s vision, and the producer’s role while choosing a film. Dil played a significant role in shaping his career. After that, he started selecting films more thoughtfully, considering the script, direction, and the producer’s vision. He never adjusted his choices again in his career.
