Deepika Padukone recently addressed the controversy surrounding her alleged demand for an 8-hour work schedule, which reportedly led her to lose two major projects — ‘Spirit’ and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. Speaking out for the first time, the actress clarified her stance and responded to the way these matters were portrayed in the media.

“Why the Backlash Only When a Woman Makes a Demand?” – Deepika Questions

In a recent interview, Deepika said:

“Just because I’m a woman, when I speak up or set boundaries, it becomes a headline. Many male superstars have been working just 8 hours a day for years, but no one ever questioned them.”

She added:

“I’m not naming anyone, but it’s known that several actors in the industry work only Monday to Friday, and avoid weekends completely. Yet when I do the same, it becomes a controversy.”

Why She Opted Out of ‘Spirit’ and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’

According to media reports, Deepika had requested a strict 8-hour workday for the film ‘Spirit’, along with a reported fee of ₹40 crore. It’s also claimed that the film had several intimate and adult-rated scenes, which she was uncomfortable with. As a result, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga decided to replace her with Triptii Dimri.

Similarly, her departure from ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is believed to have been due to scheduling issues and her fee structure, which did not align with the producers’ expectations.
