Rohit’s father, M.B. Shetty, was a renowned stuntman in the old Bollywood era. He choreographed action sequences in many hit films like Trishul and Kala Patthar featuring Amitabh Bachchan, and was well known for being the body double of several leading stars.

His mother, Ratna Shetty, worked as a junior artist and also performed body double roles for various heroines. She appeared in small roles in some films. M.B. Shetty and Ratna Shetty met on a film set and later got married. Sadly, after M.B. Shetty’s untimely demise, Ratna Shetty had to take on small roles for several years to support the family.

Early Days: From Assistant Director to Independent Filmmaker

At a very young age, Rohit had to take on family responsibilities. He began working as an assistant director in the film industry, gaining experience by working with prominent directors. This not only helped him financially but also equipped him with the skills that proved invaluable when he started directing independently.

Friendship with Ajay Devgn and First Break

In the interview, Rohit revealed that his friendship with Ajay Devgn began early in his career. At that time, Ajay was already a popular star, and Rohit worked as an associate director on many of his films.

Ajay Devgn gave Rohit his first directorial opportunity with the film ‘Zameen’. Unfortunately, the film did not perform well at the box office. Following that, Rohit Shettydecided to create ‘Golmaal’, a comedy project he made with low expectations. To everyone’s surprise, Golmaal became a cult hit and eventually developed into a successful franchise.

A Series of Blockbuster Hits

After the success of Golmaal, Rohit Shetty never looked back. He went on to direct several blockbuster films including Singham, Chennai Express, Dilwale, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi. He also directed the action web series ‘Indian Police Force’.

Currently, Rohit Shetty is working on a cop-action drama based on the life of IPS officer Rakesh Maria, starring John Abraham. Additionally, he has completed the script for Golmaal 5.
