according to the  http://www.pinkvilla.com

Due to Kamal Haasan’s recent comments about the Kannada language, his upcoming film Thug Life is facing a massive boycott from the Karnataka audience. Scheduled for release on June 5, the Kamal Haasan-starrer will now be released in all states except Karnataka. Let’s take a closer look at what sparked the controversy.

Kamal Haasan’s Controversial Comment

The controversy began on May 24 during the audio launch of Thug Life. At the event, Kamal Haasan made a remark referring to actor Shiva Rajkumar, saying:

“Shiva Rajkumar is like my brother, that’s why he’s here. I started my work, life, and relationships in Tamil. Your language, Kannada, has its roots in Tamil. So you are also a part of us.”

This comment triggered widespread outrage, especially in Karnataka. Chief Minister of Karnataka responded, stating that the Kannada language has its own rich and independent history, which Kamal Haasan might not be aware of. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce was the first to react, announcing that the film would not be allowed to release in the state unless Kamal Haasan issued a public apology.

Widespread Protests and Legal Action

Following the statement, protests erupted across the state. Politicians, public figures, and various regional organizations condemned Kamal Haasan’s remark and demanded an immediate apology. Demonstrations were held in several places, with widespread public backlash.

High Court Orders Apology

The issue eventually reached the Karnataka High Court, which, considering the need to maintain public peace, also directed Kamal Haasan to apologize. However, he has stood by his statement and has not yet issued an apology. As a result, Thug Life has been banned in Karnataka and will not be released in the state.

About the Film

Amid this controversy, Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Thug Life is still slated for release on June 5. In the film, he plays the role of a powerful gangster in what promises to be a gripping crime thriller. The movie is directed by renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam.
