While the romantic drama Saiyara is currently breaking major box office records, an animated film has quietly made a strong impact of its own. Mahavatar Narasimha, a mythological animated movie, has not only impressed audiences but has also outperformed several other films in the animation genre at the box office.

Directed  by Ashwin Kumar

Mahavatar Narasimha is directed and produced by Ashwin Kumar. Since its release, the film has seen a massive surge in demand. In fact, it recorded a 400% increase in collections after its opening day, making it a highly profitable venture—especially considering its modest budget.

Backed by Hombale Films – The Makers of KGF, Kantara, and Salaar

The film is backed by Hombale Films, the production house behind blockbusters like KGF, Kantara, and Salaar. While they are known for high-octane action entertainers, Mahavatar Narasimha marks a bold step into animated mythological storytelling.

The makers recently announced an ambitious expansion with the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe—a seven-part series that will narrate the stories of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. Mahavatar Narasimha is the first installment in this epic saga.

Impressive Box Office Performance

On its opening day, Mahavatar Narasimha earned ₹1.75 crore. Thanks to positive word-of-mouth and rising public interest, the collections surged to ₹4.6 crore on day two, with ₹1.15 crore from the Telugu version and ₹3.25 crore from the Hindi version.

The film continued its upward trend on Sunday, collecting a whopping ₹9.5 crore. This brought the first weekend total to ₹15.85 crore. The strong performance didn’t stop there. The film continued its momentum through the week:

  • Day 4 (Monday): ₹6 crore

  • Day 5 (Tuesday): ₹7.7 crore

  • Day 6 (Wednesday): ₹7.7 crore

  • Day 7 (Thursday): ₹7.5 crore

By the end of its first week, Mahavatar Narasimha had collected an impressive ₹44 crore.

Strong Start to Second Week

The film maintained its pace going into the second weekend. On its eighth day (Friday), it earned another ₹7.7 crore, signaling continued strong interest and minimal drop in viewership.

A Record-Breaking Animated Film

This level of box office success is extraordinary for an animated film in India. Mahavatar Narasimha has now become the highest-grossing Indian animated film, setting a new benchmark for the genre. As of now, the total domestic box office collection stands at ₹52 crore, broken down as follows:

  • Hindi version: ₹37.95 crore

  • Telugu version: ₹12.67 crore

  • Other South Indian languages: Contributed significantly to the remaining total

Worldwide Success and Growing Demand

The film’s massive success has translated internationally as well. Due to growing audience demand, the number of screens showing the film increased rapidly—from 800 screens on Friday to 1,100 screens by Saturday.

With its mythological storytelling, high-quality animation, and strong box office numbers, Mahavatar Narasimha has not only captured the hearts of audiences but also proven that Indian animated cinema has the potential to compete with mainstream blockbusters.
