Why He Did Not Work With Salman Khan
In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Ram Gopal Varma was asked why he never teamed up with Salman Khan. He responded: “You can make a film with Salman as the central attraction, but I cannot make that kind of film. It’s not that such films are bad; I’m simply not capable of making a film that suits that format.”
He further added: “I cannot make a film that can justify Salman Khan’s presence.” Around 2012, when Salman was delivering back-to-back blockbusters, Ram Gopal Varma had even tweeted: “I think Salman can deliver a flop only if he works with me.”
A Project That Almost Happened in 1999
Back in 1999, there was a possibility that Ram Gopal Varma and Salman might work together. During that period, Salman watched Shool, directed by Eeshwar Nivas, and liked it immensely. The film was written and produced by Ram Gopal Varma.
Following this, Salman approached him, and several meetings took place between Salman, Ram Gopal Varma, and Sreenivas.
They were set to collaborate on a project titled ‘Goli’, based on a real-life gangster. Salman was supposed to play a negative character. However, the project never progressed further and was eventually shelved.

Speaking about Shah Rukh Khan, Ram Gopal Varma said that directing him would be difficult because Shah Rukh’s natural energy does not match his filmmaking style.
