Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has once again landed in legal trouble. The actor has reportedly received a court notice regarding his advertisement for Rajshree Pan Masala.
Salman Khan Back Under Legal Scrutiny
It seems controversies and Salman Khan go hand in hand. The actor has faced several legal challenges over the years but has managed to keep his film career moving forward. However, he is now caught in another controversy — this time for endorsing a pan masala brand.
The notice has been issued in connection with advertisements for Rajshree Pan Masala, and the court has ordered Salman Khan to appear in person soon.
Public Interest Petition Filed Over Misleading Advertisement
Salman Khan is known for endorsing brands such as Vimal Pan Masala and Rajshree Pan Masala. His immense stardom has significantly boosted the popularity and sales of these brands. However, Inder Mohan Singh, a senior BJP leader and lawyer at the Rajasthan High Court, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the actor.
According to an India Today report, the petition claims that Rajshree Pan Masala falsely advertises that its product contains saffron (kesar). Considering that saffron costs nearly ₹4 lakh per kilogram while the product sells for just ₹5 per pouch, the claim is allegedly misleading and deceptive.
Accused of Misleading the Public
The petition further states that such advertisements mislead the public, especially the youth, and encourage the consumption of tobacco and pan masala, which contributes to rising cases of cancer. Inder Mohan Singh has urged the court to ban such advertisements and even demanded that all awards conferred upon Salman Khan be revoked.
Court Notice to Salman Khan and Rajshree
The Kota Consumer Court has taken cognizance of the matter and issued notices to both Salman Khan and the Rajshree company. They have been instructed to present their side before November 27.
As of now, Salman Khan has not released any official statement regarding the issue. The actor is currently the brand ambassador for Rajshree Pan Masala, a company known for manufacturing various types of pan masala products.
