Anupam Kher’s ‘Tanvi the Great’ to Be Re-Released in Theatres – Find Out Why
according to the http://www.pinkvilla.com
Anupam Kher’s directorial debut ‘Tanvi the Great’, which was originally released on 18th July 2025, is now set to return to theatres. Due to several challenges at the time of its initial release, the film didn’t perform as expected at the box office. Hence, Kher has decided to give the film a second chance with a re-release.
Overshadowed by a Romantic Blockbuster
‘Tanvi the Great’ was released on 18th July, but it had to compete with ‘Saiyara’, a romantic drama produced by Yash Raj Films that dominated the box office. The overwhelming response to Saiyara, which ran houseful for several weeks, left very little room for other films to attract audiences.
As a result, ‘Tanvi the Great’ managed to earn only ₹2.39 crore, falling significantly short of its potential. Recognizing that the film didn’t get the attention it deserved, Anupam Kher decided to re-release it in cinemas on 26th September 2025, offering audiences another opportunity to experience this inspiring story on the big screen.
A Legendary Actor Turns Director
Anupam Kher, a veteran of Indian cinema with over 300 films to his name—including iconic roles in Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Ram Lakhan, and Tezaab—stepped behind the camera for the first time with ‘Tanvi the Great’. The film marks a significant milestone in his celebrated career.
Jackie Shroff plays a key role in the film as Brigadier Joshi, whose character poster was unveiled shortly before the release. The film also stars Boman Irani as Raja Sahab, a distinguished and pivotal character.

The film introduces newcomer Shubhangi Dutt in the lead role as Tanvi Raina. The story revolves around her 21-year-old character who lives with her mother and retired army colonel grandfather. Inspired by her late father’s dream, Tanvi—who is on the autism spectrum—sets out on a seemingly impossible mission: to salute the Indian flag at the Siachen Glacier.
Her journey of courage, determination, and self-belief forms the emotional core of the narrative, delivering a message of hope and empowerment.
Backed by an Award-Winning Team
‘Tanvi the Great’ is directed by Anupam Kher and features music composed by Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani. The film is a joint production between Anupam Kher Studios and NFDC, in collaboration with Lower Middle Class Corporation.
A Second Chance to Shine on the Big Screen
With its re-release scheduled for 26th September 2025, ‘Tanvi the Great’ is all set to reach a wider audience and finally receive the appreciation it deserves. For viewers who missed it the first time, this is a golden opportunity to witness a heartfelt and inspiring cinematic experience.
