The makers of Dhurandhar have decided not to release the Telugu version of the film. The plan to launch a dubbed Telugu version has been abruptly shelved, as the film continues to register massive box office collections in its Hindi release.
Massive Box Office Success in Hindi
Dhurandhar is currently enjoying a phenomenal run at the box office, breaking multiple records on a daily basis. While the film continues its strong performance in Hindi, the makers had initially planned to dub and release it in Telugu as well. Within just 19 days of its release, Dhurandhar has collected an impressive ₹591 crore at the box office, setting several major records. At present, Chhaava remains the only film ahead on the list of this year’s biggest blockbusters. Industry experts believe that Dhurandhar is likely to surpass that record in the coming days.
Telugu Release Plan Cancelled at the Last Moment
The Telugu version of Dhurandhar was scheduled for release on December 19. However, according to reports by Telugu 360, the Hindi version itself is performing exceptionally well in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The makers felt that releasing a Telugu-dubbed version could potentially affect the Hindi version’s earnings in these regions, leading to the decision to cancel the Telugu release.
Telugu Version Planned for ‘Dhurandhar 2’
While the Telugu version of the first installment has been dropped, the makers have confirmed that Dhurandhar 2 will be released in Telugu. The sequel is expected to hit theatres simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu.
Lessons from the ‘Chhaava’ Telugu Release
Earlier, Chhaava had been released in Telugu two weeks after its Hindi release. However, the Telugu version failed to match the box office performance of the Hindi version. Taking this experience into account, the team behind Dhurandhar decided to avoid a similar outcome.
