Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s upcoming film Dhadak 2 has finally cleared the hurdles posed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has been granted a UA 16 certificate, meaning viewers under the age of 16 can watch the film when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Here’s everything you need to know about the film’s clearance and updates.

CBFC Certification with Edits

Dhadak 2 had been under scrutiny by the CBFC for several weeks due to its sensitive content. The film features dialogues and visuals related to caste issues, which led the board to recommend multiple changes. After discussions with the filmmakers, some dialogues and scenes were altered or removed to comply with the board’s guidelines. The final version has now been approved and is ready for theatrical release with the required edits.

A Remake of South Indian Film ‘Pariyerum Perumal’

Dhadak 2 is a remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, which explored themes of caste discrimination through a poignant love story. The original narrative depicted a romance between a couple from different castes—an upper-caste woman and a lower-caste man—highlighting the social challenges they face.

Because of its bold approach to caste issues, the CBFC raised concerns over certain dialogues and visuals. For example, a line that originally said, “3000 saal purana backlog 70 saalon mein clear nahi ho saka”, was changed to “Itne saalon ka backlog”. In another instance, references to specific caste names were removed and replaced with the word “junglees.” These are just a few of the many edits made to align the film with CBFC guidelines.
