What Did Vivek Agnihotri Say About His So-Called Propaganda Films? — “Those Accusing Me Might Be from the Opposition”‘
In a recent podcast interview, The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri defended his filmmaking style and addressed the criticism that his movies are “propaganda.” He claimed that many who accuse him likely belong to opposition parties, and reiterated his commitment to showcasing socio-political truths through cinema.
Vivek Agnihotri, known for politically charged films like The Kashmir Files, The Tashkent Files, and The Vaccine War, has stirred considerable controversy with his work. The Kashmir Files, in particular, sparked nationwide debate and polarized opinions. While some praised it for shedding light on the plight of Kashmiri Pandits, others accused Agnihotri of pushing a political agenda in support of the ruling government.
Responding to the backlash, Agnihotri said, “I have a clear vision, and I make films based on that. The Kashmir Files was made on a real issue, and it’s my responsibility to bring out social and political truths. Those calling it propaganda are pre-decided critics — they’ll say the same about anything I make. Maybe they’re from the opposition.”
During the same podcast, Agnihotri discussed The Tashkent Files, his film exploring the mysterious death of India’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri. He argued that the movie brought renewed public attention to Shastri’s legacy and the unanswered questions around his demise.”

Toward the end of the conversation, Agnihotri revealed details about his next film, The Delhi Files, which will focus on illegal infiltration in Bengal. He predicted that the movie will likely stir up significant controversy as well.
