After “Mahavatar Narasimha,” Netflix to Stream Animated Series “Kurukshetra” Based on the Mahabharata

Following the ancient epic adaptation Mahavatar Narasimha, Indian audiences are set to experience yet another grand retelling — this time, in the form of an animated series titled “Kurukshetra, based on the legendary Mahabharata. Unlike traditional big-screen releases, this mythological content will premiere exclusively on Netflix.

The series will be presented in 18 episodes, divided into two parts, with each part featuring nine episodes. What makes Kurukshetra unique is its narrative — the epic is told from the perspective of 18 different warriors, each representing a day of the great war.

Netflix recently released the official trailer of the series, which marks its first-ever animated mythological series in India.

This adaptation brings to life all the major characters and events of the Mahabharata through high-quality animation and cutting-edge VFX. Each character is voiced by human voice actors, and the series features high-end visual effects, cinematic sound design, and epic-scale battle sequences that promise an immersive viewing experience.

The series is conceived and produced by Anu Sikka, directed by Ujaan Ganguly, and features lyrics penned by the legendary poet Gulzar.

While these stories were earlier confined to traditional formats, the new wave of mythological storytelling is bringing them back to life with fresh perspectives and advanced production.
