Rishab Shetty’s much-anticipated film ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ has been acquired by Amazon Prime Video for its digital streaming rights. According to an exclusive report by Pinkvilla, Amazon has paid a massive amount for the rights, indicating the high level of buzz and excitement surrounding the film.
A Whopping ₹125 Crore Deal
‘Kantara: Chapter 2’ is yet to hit the big screens and is officially scheduled for theatrical release on October 2, 2025. However, well in advance, Amazon Prime Video has bagged the OTT rights across all languages for a staggering ₹125 crore. This makes it the second most expensive OTT deal in the Kannada film industry, just behind KGF.
The film has completed shooting and is currently in the post-production phase.
Sky-High Expectations After Chapter 1’s Success
The first installment of ‘Kantara’ was a massive hit with both audiences and critics. Following its success, Rishab Shetty has scaled up the production for the sequel. Interestingly, ‘Kantara: Chapter 2’ is not a direct continuation of the first film’s storyline but is rather set in the same region around 1,000 years in the past, offering a fresh narrative.
This chapter will include intense action sequences and high-end VFX, which have significantly increased the overall production budget. While the first part was made on a modest budget of ₹19 crore, the second part has reportedly crossed a budget of ₹130 crore.
