The shooting of the much-anticipated film Kantara: Chapter 2’ has recently been completed. Director Rishab Shetty shared a few pictures on social media announcing the film’s wrap-up. In a recent interview, action director Arjun Raj revealed fascinating details about the film’s intense final action sequence.

Bigger, Bolder, and Rooted in Mythology

Compared to its predecessor, Kantara: Chapter 2 is being made on a much grander scale with a significant focus on action. While the story progresses further from the first part, it still draws heavily from South Indian mythology. This time, however, the script demanded more elaborate action scenes rooted in traditional martial arts.

Lead actor Rishab Shetty will be seen performing action sequences involving sword fighting and other classical combat techniques, staying true to the film’s cultural essence.

High-End Techniques and Hollywood-Level Execution

Action director Arjun Raj explained that an extensive budget has been allocated specifically for the action sequences. The production used rigging techniques commonly seen in high-end Hollywood films to execute some of the more complex stunts.

One of the major highlights includes a massive war sequence involving over 500 fighters and 3,000 junior artists.

Meticulous Planning and Massive Budget

Each action sequence required six days of preparation, with ₹1 crore spent per day on average. The major action block alone took 25 days to shoot, out of which 15 days were dedicated solely to rehearsals, while the remaining days were spent building elaborate sets.

According to Arjun Raj, the entire sequence cost nearly ₹50 crore, making it one of the most expensive action setups in Indian cinema.

The Most Challenging Scene of His Career

One particularly intense action scene was shot using a chariot-style four-wheeled vehicle, which Raj described as the most difficult and risky stunt of his career. The technical challenges and the scale of execution pushed the team to its limits.

A Leap from Low-Budget Origins

The first Kantara film, released in 2019, was made on a relatively modest budget and was deeply rooted in South Indian folk traditions. Despite its simplicity, the film became a cultural and commercial success.

The sequel, however, is on a much larger scale and brings a new level of action and drama, while still maintaining its mythological and traditional core.

Cast and Release Date

Rishab Shetty reprises his lead role, and actress Rukmini Vasanth joins him as the female lead.
