ACCORDING TO THE  http://WWW.PINKVILLA.COM

The Karnataka High Court has granted permission for the release of the film Thug Life in the state and has strongly criticized the state government for obstructing its release. The court questioned, “If the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) has already granted certification to the film, why should it not be allowed to release in Karnataka?”

Controversy Over Kamal Haasan’s Statement

Thug Life, a Tamil-language gangster drama, was released on June 5 in other parts of India. However, it was not released in Karnataka due to controversy surrounding a statement made by lead actor Kamal Haasan during the film’s promotion. Haasan had remarked that the Kannada language originated from Tamil, which sparked widespread backlash in Karnataka.

His statement led to protests from various political parties and organizations, demanding an apology. Despite the backlash, Kamal Haasan stood by his statement and refused to apologize. As a result, the film was withheld from release in Karnataka.

Legal Action by the Makers

The film’s producers approached the court to seek permission for the release. The Karnataka High Court ruled in favor of the makers, stating that governance must be based on the rule of law. The court added, “If the film has received certification from the CBFC for a nationwide release, it should not be blocked due to fear of protests or threats.”
