Rishab Shetty on ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ – “We’ve Been Completely Disconnected from the Outside World for the Past 5 Years”

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 is currently dominating the box office with an overwhelming response from audiences. The film has broken several records and has earned a place among the most successful Indian films of the year. Within just six days, it crossed the ₹300 crore mark.
However, this success did not come easily. Behind it lies years of dedication, hard work, and focus — something Rishab Shetty shared in a recent interview.
The Hard Work Behind Two Blockbusters
Having delivered two major hits — Kantara and Kantara Chapter 1 — Rishab Shetty opened up about the intense effort that went into creating both films. He revealed details about the process even before the release of the latest chapter.
He said, “For the past five years, we’ve been immersed in a world of our own. All the filming took place in my hometown, Kundapura. We were so busy with the project that we completely disconnected ourselves from the outside world. I only stepped out once to accept the National Award — and returned straight to the set afterward.”
A Grand Project with a ₹200 Crore Budget
Rishab shared that Kantara Chapter 1 was created on a massive scale. While the previous film was made on a budget of ₹13 crore, the latest chapter required nearly ₹200 crore.
“It felt like we made six to seven films in the process. That’s how much effort went into this one project,” he noted.
Three Months of Rehearsal for Action Sequences
Talking about the film’s action sequences, he said, “Designing the action was one of the toughest parts. We spent nearly three months rehearsing. I performed all the action scenes myself without using any body double.” He added, “Sometimes we would shoot continuously for 30 to 40 hours.”
The Dual Role of Actor and Director
Rishab not only played the lead role but also directed the film. “Handling both acting and direction in such a large-scale project was extremely challenging,” he admitted.
He further shared, “Along with acting, managing the entire team was a huge responsibility.”

Rishab expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the entire cast and crew. “From the technical team and stuntmen to the cameramen and supporting actors — everyone gave their best. We all worked together as one unit to make this film a reality.”
He added, “Unlike typical film sets where actors leave after their scenes, here, everyone stayed involved and constantly discussed the film, even off-camera.”
