Sohum Shah has officially announced the much-anticipated sequel to his critically acclaimed horror film ‘Tumbbad’. Titled ‘Tumbbad 2’, the film will be made on a massive budget of ₹150 crore, which is 10 times higher than the original. For this ambitious project, Sohum Shah is teaming up with Pen Studios and veteran producer Dr. Jayantilal Gada.
‘Tumbbad’ – One of India’s Finest Horror Films
Released in 2018, ‘Tumbbad’ is widely regarded as one of the best horror films to come out of Indian cinema. Known for its atmospheric storytelling and unique visual style, the film received widespread critical acclaim, although its initial box office performance was modest.
However, after its re-release, the film gained a cult following and was rediscovered by a larger audience. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited news of a sequel.

₹150 Crore Budget – A Bigger and Bolder Vision
According to a Koimoi exclusive, ‘Tumbbad 2’ will be made with a staggering budget of ₹150 crore, compared to just ₹15 crore for the original. During the making of the first film, the team reportedly faced several financial hurdles. This time, however, Sohum Shah has secured strong financial backing from Pen Studios.
Sohum shared:
“I’ve admired Jayantilal Gada’s work for years. When I pitched the idea of ‘Tumbbad 2’ to him, he agreed within just five minutes. For a storyteller, that kind of support and trust feels like a dream come true.”
Pen Studios Backs the Project with Confidence
Pen Studios is known for producing and distributing several major hits including ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ‘Total Dhamaal’, ‘RRR’, ‘Dunki’, ‘Chhava’, and ‘Munjya’. ‘Tumbbad 2’ is now one of their flagship upcoming ventures, receiving full creative and financial support.
Director Change – Adesh Prasad to Helm the Sequel
The original ‘Tumbbad’ was directed by Rahi Anil Barve. However, due to his current commitments to other projects, the direction for ‘Tumbbad 2’ will now be taken over by Adesh Prasad, who was also an assistant director on the first film. His familiarity with the original vision ensures continuity and depth in storytelling.
Six Years in the Making – Script Finalized
The script for ‘Tumbbad 2’ is now complete, with Sohum Shah having worked on it for the past six years. With the story now locked, the film is entering the pre-production phase and is expected to begin shooting soon.
