Currently, Kantara: Chapter 1 is generating a significant buzz on social media, as the film is all set to release on October 2nd. However, just ahead of its release, the film has found itself caught in a controversy — this time, over language.

On Sunday, the pre-release event for the film was held in Hyderabad. The entire cast and crew were present at the event, and popular Telugu actor Jr. NTR also attended as a guest. During the event, a statement made by Rishab Shetty sparked outrage among a section of the Telugu audience.

While speaking on stage, Rishab Shetty said, “I will speak in Kannada because I want to speak from the heart.” This statement didn’t sit well with several Telugu and Tamil-speaking viewers, who felt it was disrespectful, especially given the location of the event and the film’s pan-South India release.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) questioned, “Why is Rishab speaking in Kannada in Hyderabad? He knows Telugu. If Kannada is truly his priority, why is the film being released in Telugu and Tamil? If he’s so proud, he should’ve just stuck to Kannada audiences.”

Another user expressed frustration, saying, “After KGF, Telugu audiences wholeheartedly supported Kannada cinema. But what did we get in return? Insult. One person tweeted, ‘His ego has grown too much. He gives interviews in Hindi in North India and speaks Tamil in Tamil Nadu. But here, he didn’t even try to speak a single word in Telugu. Rishab Shetty, you cannot take the Telugu audience for granted.’”

Despite the backlash from some sections of the South Indian audience, Kantara: Chapter 1 has continued to build massive hype. The trailer has received an overwhelmingly positive response, and advance bookings are already open. The film is scheduled for release on October 2nd, with Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah playing the lead roles.
