Slow Start at the Box Office

The Bengal Files has opened to a sluggish performance at the box office. Released on Friday, the film’s opening day earnings fell significantly short of expectations. The second day too failed to bring in any major turnaround in collections.

Underwhelming Opening Despite Word-of-Mouth

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Bengal Files didn’t manage to make a strong first impression commercially. Although the film is based on a controversial and sensitive subject, and received decent word-of-mouth reviews from audiences on the first day, it failed to draw significant footfall to theatres.

On Day 1, the film earned approximately ₹1.75 crore, and on Day 2, it could only manage ₹2.25 crore, showing no major improvement.

Historical and Cultural Backdrop

The movie is based on the culture and pre-independence history of Bengal, highlighting several controversial and lesser-known events. The central plot is inspired by real incidents like the Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots that occurred in 1946.

The narrative weaves a modern-day investigation with flashbacks to these historical events, ultimately leading up to the Partition of India. This mix of present and past aims to offer a dramatic and thought-provoking storyline.

Low Weekend Expectations

Despite getting positive reviews from a section of the audience on its first day, the film couldn’t generate enough interest to pull crowds into cinemas. Based on the two-day earnings, industry analysts estimate that the film is unlikely to cross ₹5 crore even by Sunday.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that The Bengal Files may not be able to replicate the commercial success or cultural impact of Vivek Agnihotri’s previous film, The Kashmir Files.

Strong Cast with Commendable Performances

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including: Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, Anupam Kher All actors have delivered strong performances, contributing to the film’s emotional and dramatic depth.
