A Reported Budget of ₹1600 Crores

Discussing the film’s budget on the podcast, Malhotra revealed that people often think he’s gone “crazy” for investing so much in a single film. He stated that Ramayana is being made at a scale never before seen in Indian cinema. According to him, the budget for both parts of the film is around $500 million, which is approximately ₹1600 crores.

Despite the massive figure, Malhotra remarked that he still believes they are creating something truly global at a relatively modest cost compared to Hollywood standards. “We’re making a big film at a small price,” he said.

A Global Vision for Indian Cinema

Namit Malhotra’s core mission with Ramayana is to elevate Indian cinema on the global stage. He wants to bring India’s rich mythology to every corner of the world with technical brilliance and visual excellence. For him, this project is not just about storytelling but about setting new benchmarks for Indian filmmaking.

Ramayana is being made in two parts and is set to become the most expensive film ever produced in India. Directed by Dangal fame Nitesh Tiwari, the film is expected to release its first part during Diwali 2026.
