Bhosale, the film released in 2018 starring Manoj Bajpayee, was highly praised by both audiences and critics. However, making this film was not an easy journey—Manoj Bajpayee had to face several challenges, especially when it came to arranging the budget. He recently opened up about the struggles he went through to fund the film.

Although Bhosale went on to win a National Award in 2018, the journey behind its making was far from smooth. In a candid conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Manoj Bajpayee revealed how difficult it was to gather funds for the film.

Manoj shared:
“Devashish Makhija has made four films so far. One of them was a short film called Tandav, which he made with me. After that, he directed Ajji, and then Bhosale and Joram—both with me. When he first came to me with the script of Bhosale, I approached several producers because we needed funding. But no one was interested in making the film.”
“Eventually, we got some partial funding, and we started the shoot. The chawl where we were filming was soon going to be demolished. At that time, we had only enough money for 10 days of shooting. On the 11th day, we could have been thrown out. So, every single day, I made sure to deliver a shot that was worth celebrating. These very shots were later showcased at many international film festivals.”
“Sometimes, right after finishing a shot, I had to rush to the vanity van and call potential financiers. That’s how we somehow completed the film, managing everything with a lot of struggle.”
The film was written and directed by Devashish Makhija. Manoj Bajpayee played the role of Ganpat Bhosale, a retired police officer. For this role, he was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actor.

The Film’s Journey Began in 2011
The script of Bhosale was actually completed in 2011. However, due to lack of funding, the project couldn’t begin until 2015. It was finally released in 2018.
The film also starred Santosh Juvekar, Virat Vaibhav, and Ipshita Chakraborty in important roles.
