The film Saiyaraa is currently dominating the box office, breaking new records each day. With collections nearing the ₹200 crore mark, it’s being hailed as a major blockbuster. As the film continues to succeed, director Mohit Suri has been giving multiple interviews, sharing insights into his journey and unique filmmaking style.

Mohit Suri Delivers Yet Another Romantic Blockbuster

Known for crafting emotionally charged romantic dramas, Mohit Suri has once again proven his mettle with Saiyaraa. The film has resonated deeply with audiences and is being celebrated for its fresh take on young love. With Saiyaraa, Mohit also gave a major break to two newcomers — Ahaan Pandey and Namita Padda.

Speaking about casting, Mohit revealed that he initially considered established actors for the roles. However, producer Aditya Chopra advised him to opt for fresh faces since the story revolved around a youthful romance. Taking that advice, Mohit decided to cast new talent.

The Casting of Ahaan Pandey

Mohit shared an interesting story about casting Ahaan Pandey. During their first meeting, Ahaan came across as extremely polite and soft-spoken. Based on that impression, Mohit felt Ahaan might not be suited to play the intense and emotionally complex character of Krish Kapoor, and initially decided to reject him.

However, as Ahaan later revealed his deeper personality and versatility, Mohit saw his potential and finalized him for the role — a decision that clearly paid off.

Music — A Key Highlight of Saiyaraa

Mohit also emphasized the importance of music in his films. For Saiyaraa, he collaborated with five different music composers to curate a powerful and emotional soundtrack. Interestingly, the film’s shoot only began after the music was completely ready, ensuring that the songs deeply integrated into the story.

A Proven Track Record

Over the years, Mohit Suri has directed several memorable films including Awarapan, Aashiqui 2, Murder 2, Kalyug, Zeher, Crook, Malang, and Woh Lamhe. Films like Murder 2, Aashiqui 2, and now Saiyaraa have become cult hits, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier romantic storyteller.

When asked if he regrets any project, Mohit candidly mentioned Crook. He said it was a darker film that went against his natural storytelling instincts. On the other hand, despite Awarapan being a well-made film, it underperformed at the box office — something he still regrets.

Mohit has worked extensively with Emraan Hashmi and was instrumental in launching stars like Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur through Aashiqui 2. With Saiyaraa, he has once again earned the tag of an emotional romantic filmmaker.
